Decorating a Baby Girl Room

Decorating a baby girl’s room does not necessarily have to be all about shades of pink and lacy, frilly things. Although these are options for a little girl’s nursery, there are an almost endless amount of ways that to decorate a baby girl room.

Choosing a theme is a popular option with many parents-to-be. Having a theme for your baby’s room means you coordinate everything from the bedding and window treatments to the crib mobile and the wall décor to all match your theme. Popular baby girl room theme ideas include princess, ladybug, butterfly, Hello Kitty, and garden themes.

If you don’t want a theme, choosing a color scheme to decorate your room around or a décor style is another option. Décor styles that are great in a baby nursery include shabby chic, vintage, and modern styles.

Some additional things you will want to consider while decorating a baby girl’s room is to not over do it with one color. For instance, if you choose pink as your main color be sure not to make everything in the room pink. Pink carpeting, pink walls, and pink bedding will be to much. A better option would be to break it up by painting pink and white striped walls or putting a chair rail or wall border around the room about three feet from the floor and painting the bottom section pink while leaving the top section white. A wall mural on one wall is also a great way to balance the room.

If you are using a theme when decorating your baby girl’s room, don’t feel limited to using only themed art work as wall décor. You could also decorate the walls by using ribbon to hanging wooden letters that spell out your daughters name or by creating a shadowbox full of baby keepsakes such as the hospital bracelet, a birth announcement, and a footprint.

When decorating your baby girl’s room also remember to think ahead to the future. Do you want to have to redo the room in a couple of years or would you like to keep the décor through your daughter’s toddler years? If you want the room to last several years, choose décor and furniture that will grow with your child. Baby furniture such as a crib and changing table that converts will save you the time and trouble of buying new furniture in a couple of years when your baby outgrows it.

The most important thing to consider when decorating your little girl’s room is to design a room that will be comfortable for not only your baby but for you to be in as well. Remember, you will be spending a lot of time in there too!
